This is a close up of The Grim Gripper's release door. A servo (black box on the right of the picture) lifts the sheet metal door to release the balls. Although difficult to see in this picture, the servo also pulls a string lifting a small ramp into position so that the balls drop from the robot in a controlled manner. (Photo Copyright J Wang 2004)
